Ask a question before deciding

Use Ask a question back when clarification would help but you are not ready to approve the submission or request another version.

Use Ask a question back when clarification would help before you approve or request another version. Sending the question does not resolve the submission. Select the image to enlarge it.
  1. Open the submitted work from New work.
  2. Read the work and the context that created the question.
  3. Select Ask a question back.
  4. Write a question that can move the work or your understanding forward.
  5. Select Send question.

The note beside the controls is important: the work stays in your list. Sending a question does not approve the milestone, request another version, or dismiss the review.

Use Cancel to close the composer without sending. Command+Enter on macOS or Ctrl+Enter on Windows sends while the question field is focused.

Ask a question when the student’s answer could change how you understand the current submission. Ask for another version when you have already decided the work should return with specific direction.

The conversation appears in the relevant student or team thread, while the submitted-work item remains available for the later approve-or-revise decision.
