Capture and manage observation notes

Observation notes are teacher-private records of what happened during the work. They do not affect a rubric score or grade. Add one for the whole assignment or scope it to a milestone, team, or student so it returns beside the relevant context later.

From an Active assignment, select Note in the assignment header or open the observation action from an eligible work context.

Use Note to capture a teacher-private observation. Scope it generally or to one team, student, and milestone so it returns beside the relevant work. Select the image to enlarge it.
  1. Enter What did you notice?
  2. Choose who or what the note is For.
  3. Choose a Milestone when the observation belongs to one stage of the project.
  4. Select Save note.

Notes can be up to 1,000 characters. Use a general assignment note when narrower scope would make the observation harder to find rather than more useful.

Choose Actions → Notes.

Actions → Notes collects your observations for this assignment. You can edit or delete only the notes you authored; other teachers’ private notes stay private. Select the image to enlarge it.

The Observation notes dialog collects the notes you authored for this assignment. Use Edit to change the text or scope, and Delete to remove one.

Each teacher sees and manages only their own notes. Assistants can create and manage their own notes but cannot read another teacher’s notes. Students never see observation notes.

Targeted notes can also return inside Overview Peek and the Grade Sheet. They remain separate from feedback: use grading feedback when the student should receive the message, and use an observation note when it is private context for your own judgment.
