Create a reusable group set
Create a group set when several classroom groups belong together and may be useful again. A set can include the full roster or only the students who need this grouping.
Existing sets appear as separate named shelves. A class can keep several sets plus standalone groups without making their memberships compete.
Start the set
Section titled “Start the set”- Open Classes and select the class.
- Select Groups.
- Select New set.
- Enter a name for the set.
- Choose a starting point:
- Split the class deals every active student into groups at random.
- Start empty creates empty groups and leaves every active student in Unplaced.
- Copy a set starts with the names and active membership from an existing set. This choice appears only when the class already has a set with groups.
Choose the starting size
Section titled “Choose the starting size”For Split the class, change either Number of groups or Students per group. Rectangle updates the other value and shows the resulting group sizes before anything is created.
For Start empty, choose how many empty groups to open in the builder.
Select Open the builder when the starting point looks right.
Random split uses only size and chance. It does not rank students or decide which classmates should work together.
Adjust the membership
Section titled “Adjust the membership”The builder gives each starting group an automatic name that you can replace. Drag students between groups, or use a group’s Add control and each student chip’s remove control to make the same changes with a keyboard.
You may leave students in Unplaced. A classroom set is reusable membership, not a requirement to place the entire roster. Save becomes available after at least one group has a student. New empty groups are not saved.
Use Randomize if you want a fresh distribution by team size or number of teams. Randomize replaces the current draft, so use it before making detailed manual changes or be prepared to adjust again.
Save or leave the draft
Section titled “Save or leave the draft”Select Save teams to create the nonempty groups in the set. Not saved yet remains visible while the builder has uncommitted membership.
You can switch to another section of the same class and return without losing the open set draft. Cancel explicitly discards the session. If a save fails, the builder stays open so you can try again.
When you later edit a set that is linked to an active project, Rectangle names the project before you save. The membership change will also change the linked project teams.
