Complete or reopen an assignment

Complete an Active assignment when the live run is over but you still need its grading, reflection, print, and reuse tools. Reopen it when students need to return to active work.

  1. Open the Active assignment.
  2. Select Actions.
  3. Select Complete project.
  4. Review Before you complete.
Complete only after reviewing the closeout summary. The assignment moves to Completed and can still receive late work until it is archived. Select the image to enlarge it.

The confirmation summarizes unfinished submissions, unpublished grades, and other closeout information. These are warnings rather than a hidden automatic decision. Select Complete project only after you understand what remains.

Completed keeps the assignment available for closeout. Late work can still be received until the assignment is Archived, and its grading, reflection, print, and reuse tools remain available.

Completed keeps its management doors together. Reopen returns the project to live work; Archive makes the assignment read-only; Delete is the irreversible path. Select the image to enlarge it.

The Completed Actions menu keeps Notes, Print assignment, Edit Assignment, Reopen, Archive, and Delete Assignment together. Choose the lifecycle action that matches the outcome:

  • Reopen returns the assignment to Active.
  • Archive makes the assignment read-only.
  • Delete Assignment permanently removes the assignment and its student work.

Select Reopen and read the confirmation.

Reopen is deliberately allowed, even with published grades. Rectangle names the consequence so exported LMS records can be reconciled if grades change. Select the image to enlarge it.

Reopen returns the assignment to Active. If grades were already published or exported, Rectangle calls that out because a later grade change may need to be reconciled in another gradebook or LMS. Select Reopen project only when the class should resume live work.

Reopening does not create a new assignment or duplicate the project. It changes the state of this existing run.
