Use assignment communications

Open Communication from an assignment when you need to answer a question, send a targeted check-in, post a class announcement, or turn a useful private exchange into a separately composed class-wide answer.

Communication opens modelessly over the current tab. Filter the seven threads by kind and prioritize items marked Needs you without losing assignment context. Select the image to enlarge it.

The flyout opens over the current assignment so you keep its context. Filter All, Questions, Announcements, or Check-ins. Prioritize threads marked Needs you or unread.

Open the thread and confirm its audience and message history before replying.

A student-only question remains between that student and authorized assignment teachers. Group-visible questions remain available to the attached group. Historic resolved conversations can be read but not reopened or shared.

Select Announce.

Announcements are one-way messages to everyone included in this assignment. Use a thread or check-in when you need a private or replyable conversation. Select the image to enlarge it.

Add an optional title and the required message, then select Post announcement. Announcements go to everyone in the assignment and are one-way; students cannot reply. Use a private thread or targeted check-in when a response is needed.

From an eligible private question, select Share with class.

Share with class does not republish the private thread. Rectangle shows the student message only as a private composition reference while the teacher writes a class-safe question and answer. Select the image to enlarge it.
  1. Read the private source only as a composition reference.
  2. Write a separate Class-safe question.
  3. Write Your answer.
  4. Select Answer and share.

Rectangle does not widen or republish the private thread. It answers the original audience and creates a separate class-wide post containing only the teacher-authored public question and answer—never the student’s name or copied private messages.
