Assign a project to selected students

Use Who in an assignment’s Teams section when only part of the class should receive the project. Choose the students before you link classroom groups or build project teams.

Who and Students work sit together at the top of Teams. Open Selected students to change the assignment audience before choosing a team source. Select the image to enlarge it.
  1. Open a Draft or Upcoming assignment.
  2. Select Teams.
  3. Open Who. It begins with everyone included unless the assignment already has a subset.
  4. Search for students or browse the active roster.
  5. Select the students who should receive the project.
  6. Select Apply.

Use Include everyone to restore the whole active class. Clear removes the current checks, but Apply remains unavailable until at least one student is selected. Rectangle never treats an empty selection as “assign to nobody.”

The Who control shows the selected count, such as 8 of 24. Students outside that selection do not see the project unless they are brought back in through a classroom group you link next.

Choose a nonempty subset and select Apply. Clear can help rebuild the selection, but Apply stays unavailable when nobody is selected. Select the image to enlarge it.

Who defines the intended set, but a linked classroom group keeps its real membership. If a selected group contains an active student outside Who, Rectangle warns that the student will be included too. The warning does not block adding the group.

Before you continue, choose the result you intend:

  • change Who to include that student;
  • select classroom groups whose membership matches the subset; or
  • make project teams from the selected students instead.

Do not assume Who silently removes students from a linked classroom group.

Assign checks the selected classroom groups against Who. Resolve doubled or left-out students before adding groups; named extras will be included in the project. Select the image to enlarge it.

When students work In teams, every student included under Who must be on exactly one selected team. Rectangle blocks the classroom-group selection when someone is in no selected group or in more than one selected group.

Project-team building starts with only the students included under Who. You may save an unfinished team draft, but the assignment is not ready for team-based launch until every included student is placed exactly once.

Project teams use only the students included under Who. A partial draft can be saved, but every included student must be placed exactly once before launch. Select the image to enlarge it.

Choose Individually when each included student should work alone. Switching to the Individually view does not immediately remove team work. Select Set as individual work to commit the choice.

If teams are already attached, Rectangle asks for confirmation before removing them from the assignment. If you have unsaved student placements, it warns before discarding that in-progress work.
