Stage or start an assignment

Stage an assignment when it is ready but should open later. Start it when students should have access now. Both transitions are explicit and explain what students will see before anything changes.

On a Draft, expand Launch readiness. Fix every item marked as blocking. Standards review may still appear as a warning; it does not prevent launch.

Readiness separates launch blockers from review warnings and intentional deferrals. Fix the named blockers; standards can be reconciled before or after launch. Select the image to enlarge it.
  1. Select Stage for launch.
  2. Review the Go-live date.
  3. Read the student-visibility and standards warnings.
  4. Select Stage for launch in the confirmation.

A Staged assignment is visible to students as upcoming, but they cannot open the work. It starts automatically at 6 a.m. on the start date in the assignment owner’s timezone.

Confirm only when students should begin now.

To open the work early, select Start now and confirm. This opens the assignment without replacing the schedule you already staged.

To return to private setup, select Unstage and confirm.

Unstage returns the assignment to Draft. Students no longer see it as upcoming, while the saved schedule, teams, project copy, and settings remain available for editing. Select the image to enlarge it.
