Create and share a class join code
A class join code lets students ask to enter a class without the teacher typing every name. Using a code always creates a request for teacher approval; it never adds a student to the active roster immediately.
Create a join code
Section titled “Create a join code”- Select Classes and open the class.
- Stay on Roster and find Join code.
- Select New code.
- Optionally choose an expiration date.
- Optionally enter a maximum number of uses.
- Select Create code.
Rectangle creates a six-character code and its shareable link. The code avoids characters that are easy to confuse when read from a board.
You can keep more than one active code for the same class. This can be useful when different groups need different limits, but it also means deactivating one code does not deactivate the others.
Share or project the code
Section titled “Share or project the code”- Select Copy link beside a code to copy its full join link.
- When a live code appears in the class heading, select it for a quick copy without scrolling back to the join-code section.
- Select Project it to show the class name, large code, join address, and QR code full-screen. Press Escape or use the on-screen control to leave projection.
A join code is an enrollment credential. Share it only with the students who should be allowed to request the class. Use a demonstration code—not a live class code—in public screenshots or handouts.
What students experience
Section titled “What students experience”- The student opens the link or enters the code.
- If needed, Rectangle asks the student to sign in or create an account, then returns to the join request.
- Rectangle confirms that the request was sent.
- An owner or co-teacher reviews the request.
- After approval, the class appears for the student.
Using the code again does not bypass approval. A student already active in the class is taken to that class; a request already waiting stays pending.
Replace or close a code
Section titled “Replace or close a code”Select Deactivate when a live code should stop accepting requests. Expired codes and codes that have reached their maximum uses can remain in the list, but students cannot use them. The list may still let you copy one; copying it does not reactivate it.
Expiration and maximum uses cannot be edited after creation. Deactivate the old code and create a replacement when you need different limits.
If a student sees an invalid-code message, give them a new active code. An archived class does not accept join requests until the class is unarchived.
