Attach practice and habit standards to rubric criteria

Practices, habits, and competencies describe how students work with evidence. Attach them to the rubric criterion that measures that quality.

Build the project-wide rubric from blank criteria or editor-reviewed patterns. Keep the total at 100 percent and describe observable work at all four mastery levels. Select the image to enlarge it.

The selected criterion shows its current practice and habit standards beside the criterion name, weight, and performance levels.

  1. Open Rubric and select the criterion.
  2. In Practice and habit standards, choose Edit.
  3. Search by code or keyword.
  4. Choose Practices, Habits, or Competencies.
  5. Confirm the subject, grade, and framework scope, then add the relevant standards.
Attach practices, habits, and competencies to the criterion that measures them. These standards belong in the rubric; content standards belong in milestones. Select the image to enlarge it.

Rectangle searches your home framework by default and scopes results to the project context. You can widen the framework or grade band when the criterion intentionally measures something outside the default.

Attach only standards the criterion’s four levels actually describe. If a practice is present in the project but the criterion does not measure it, either strengthen the criterion or leave the standard unattached.

Each criterion can carry up to ten practice or habit standards. Remove a chip to make room or to correct the mapping.

Content standards that name what students learn belong on milestones; process standards that name how evidence is produced or judged belong here.
