Classroom roles and permissions
Every class has one owner and can also include co-teachers and assistants. A person’s class role determines which controls Rectangle shows in that class.

An unavailable action is often hidden instead of shown as a disabled button. If a colleague cannot find a control, first confirm their role in Roster under Teaching team.
Choose a role
Section titled “Choose a role”Choose Co-teacher for someone who should help operate the class: managing students, groups, assignments, grading, details, and settings.
Choose Assistant for someone who should be able to follow the class and help grade without changing its structure, roster, groups, assignments, or settings.
Ownership cannot be transferred. The owner remains responsible for the teaching team and the class lifecycle.
Change someone’s role
Section titled “Change someone’s role”Rectangle does not currently provide a direct role selector for an accepted teaching-team member. The owner must remove that person from the teaching team and send a new invitation with the new role.
Roles in an archived class
Section titled “Roles in an archived class”Archiving turns off roster changes, join-code controls, settings, and teaching-team changes for everyone. It is not a universal read-only lock: owners and co-teachers can still edit class details, and the Groups tab keeps its currently available management controls. Only the owner can unarchive the class.
