Start a blank project

Start blank when the project structure is already in your head or when an existing pattern would create more cleanup than momentum.

Choose Create from Rectangle's main navigation. Resume current work, preview a Craft Pattern, start blank, or use one of the other authoring paths from this page. Select the image to enlarge it.
  1. Select Create in the main navigation.
  2. On the Create page, select Start blank.
  3. Begin in Project with the title, driving question, and student-facing purpose.

The blank path opens the same Authoring workspace used by patterns, remixes, and AI-assisted drafts. It does not create a smaller or less capable project.

A practical sequence is:

  1. Define the project essentials and authentic audience in Project.
  2. Break the work into ordered stages in Milestones.
  3. Add deliverables and content standards to the milestone where each belongs.
  4. Build the project-wide criteria and levels in Rubric.
  5. Proof both audiences in Reading View.
  6. Use Publish to check quality and choose the correct lifecycle state.

Rectangle autosaves the draft as you work. You can leave and resume it from My drafts without finishing every section in one session.
