Remove or reactivate a student
Remove a student from the active roster when they leave the class. Rectangle preserves the student’s work and class history under Former students, so removal is different from deletion.
Remove a student from the active roster
Section titled “Remove a student from the active roster”- Select Classes and open the class.
- Stay on Roster.
- Open the student’s row menu.
- Select Remove from class.
- Read the confirmation, then confirm the removal.
The student moves out of the active roster. Their submissions, grades, and student record remain available, and they can continue using their other Rectangle classes. They cannot submit new work in this class while they are a former student.
Read project-team warnings
Section titled “Read project-team warnings”If the student belongs to an active project team, the confirmation names the student, team, and project. Removing the student from the roster does not delete the team or its work and does not silently rearrange the other members.
Review the project after removal if the team needs a different membership or assignment plan.
Remove a student from a Google Classroom roster
Section titled “Remove a student from a Google Classroom roster”You can remove a student from an imported class in Rectangle, but the next Google Classroom sync will reactivate them if they are still on the Google roster.
To keep the student removed:
- Remove them from the source course in Google Classroom.
- Sync the Rectangle class again.
Students you added manually or approved through a join code are not removed by Google sync.
Reactivate a former student
Section titled “Reactivate a former student”- Open Former students below the active roster.
- Find the student’s name.
- Open the row menu and select Reactivate.
The student returns to the active roster with their earlier class history intact. Adding the same inactive student again with the same Rectangle account also reactivates the existing enrollment instead of creating a second one.
The roster’s Find a student… box filters current students only. If a name does not appear in search, check Former students before adding a new account.
Class owners and co-teachers can remove or reactivate students. Assistants and viewers of an archived class do not receive these controls.
